Wiertz actually doesn’t have a real gender but is referred to as a boy. Because he technically has no real gender, he wears whatever clothes he wants, which can range from dresses when he first meets Christoph to the usual wardrobe of a quintessential guy, to nondescript sweats when he sleeps over at Christoph’s apartment one night. Any sexual encounters with Wiertz are awkward for Christoph, who’s never done anything with a girl, let alone a Wiertz. He has blonde hair of which one side goes to his shoulder while the other side goes down another six inches (to about his chest). In the back, it looks like it was cut on the diagonal and the length difference is gradual. He’s very cultured, but gives almost no family history. He does have reading glasses, which makes Christoph blush for some reason. Honestly, he thinks Christoph’s a bit of an idiot and he gets annoyed by how much gravity Christoph puts on their relationship. He’s much more cynical due to his pressuring profession and serves as a balance for Christoph’s naïveté. He is surprisingly thin, as Christoph notices once when he grabs his wrist. He used to have an eating disorder, which he has recovered from but suffered bone loss because of. He is a ballerina, and he is older than Christoph, and he’s considering ending his career because of the pressure and doing some other interesting career that allows him to travel the world. He is secretly a dreamer. Secretly. Anton and him dated for about a year but they broke up because Wiertz doesn't like commitment. Anton never really got over him, and eventually does pursue him. They end up getting married. His name is a reference to Antoine Wiertz, a romantic painter who painted macabre scenes with lots of skeletons and disease and crap like that. Wiertz isn't his real name though.
Antony (Anton) Ess

He always wears a kilt despite not being Scottish, except when with Wiertz, then he wears pants like a normal person. He's a bit damaged emotionally due to the accident that killed his parents (lol cliche) and his fuse is a bit shorter than most. His nose is always bruised, whether by different accidents every other day or by some medical condition is unclear. He became college friends with Christoph, he's kind of republican. More libertarian though. He always calls his transgender brother his name, Sam, rather than using pronouns. He doesn’t bring gender into it. Their relationship is strained. His hair always flips out to one side, the left side. He has reddish-orangish hair. He works with liberal immigrant assistants and dental hygienists so he complains about work a lot. He moved out of the family house because his brother was driving him insane, he does come from a very rich family. He likes to drink wine, he always has a bottle of wine handy when he goes to Christoph's house. He’s not exactly a connoisseur, he just likes the stuff. He’s pretty down to earth, and he has a saying for every occasion. He does smoke. He is a dentist. He is aware of the irony. He likes to poke fun at Wiertz a lot and he thinks it's cute when Wiertz gets flustered or upset since it happens so rarely. He supports Christoph for finally dating, but is conflicted over Wiertz. Eventually, he does try to win Wiertz over again, and they do eventually get married. By the end of the book, he is the only person to know Wiertz's real name. His name is also a reference to Antoine Wiertz.
Simon Mirman
Weirdo
He is referred to as “Mirman” and is Kirsch’s (Kirsch is the embodiment of the devil) handler. He doesn’t have any real magical powers, but his eye is very strange. His ulterior motives to putting up with Kirsch is to basically not be bored. The one thing he can’t handle is being bored and he tends to flirt with Sam, who rarely responds well—for lack of better words. He really likes music, hence why he takes a shining to Fritz, a pianist, when they first meet. He is oddly affectionate, and because he spends so much time with Kirsch, generally Kirsch has to put up with his weird forehead kisses. He is very much a snake in the grass though, and while he never goes against Kirsch’s orders, he does try to subtly hint certain things and manipulate Kirsch (who most always picks up on it but doesn’t say anything about it). He did go to college with Anton and Christoph, but neither remembers him because he was always the kid in the back of their classes. He originally didn’t have anything too weird with him, but—implicitly because of Kirsch—his left eye does have a bullseye pattern with black and another color I haven’t fully decided. He gives Anton the creeps. He does all the shopping because Sam and Kirsch are incompetent when it comes to practical traits. He enjoys meeting people on his errands and giving their bad advice with such conviction they believe him. He used to make his money from a sex- phone call service. One of the tallest characters, his hair is parted on his left side with long bangs/hair on his right side and then shorter, unkempt hair on his left. They may or may not be two different colors, colors of which I haven’t decided either.
