capt. deep walked up the steps to the wheel. "id like to resume my place if ye'd be so kind?" the first mate quickly allowed the captains hands to grab the pegs of the wheel to turn it. "and ill be needin my coat back." the first mate gave it over to her. capt. deps hat was resting on the desk before her, and she quickly placed it upon her head. the first mate lit a lantern in the bottom rom where the crew was sleeping. few stirred from their restings and the first mate walked through easily with a bucket of water and some apples. she carried the tray up their newfound captain. the first mate held the lantern up to the captains face. it was still just like it was before, except slightly wetter and a bit waterlogged. the hands that grabbed the wheel were wrinkled and pruny. "you must be hungry or thirsty. " she offered the captain the tray. "aye, i am thirsty. not hungry so much but thirsty... i am rather thirsty." she picked up the bucket and drank from it hastily. "take the food back. i wont be needin it." the first mate agreed and took it back. she went to sleep in her bunk.

the next morning the crewmates were shaking her awake and demanding why she wasn't at the wheel. she only smiled and replied. "go see for yourselves mates." the crew eagerly ran on the boat deck, and capt. deep onle looked down at them and hollered to them "What are you just standing around for mates? 'bout time you be wakin up! now let's get it movin!"
