Capt. Deep began with swabbing the deck, and then she cleaned out the crows’ nest. She didn’t know the commodore had a crows’ nest, but she cleaned it, and it was rather hard. She felt pity on her crewmates, who had to do chores such as this almost everyday. She would give them a reward as soon as she got back onto her ship.
As the sun began to set, Capt. Deep and the commodore sat down in his quarters. “I noticed you didn’t help out on the deck Commodore.” Capt. Deep said.
“I had paperwork to complete; that is my chore, Miss Deep.” The commodore said.
Capt. Deep nodded slightly. She looked around. “And your quarters are so nice, while your crew sleeps where?” Capt. Deep asked.
“Don’t try to make me look cruel; I know your quarters are equally as elegant as mine. “Aye, but my crew has almost as good of a living space. You can find rather nice bedding from higher classmen when it’s stolen. It gives your living area a different feel to it.” Capt. Deep said.
“An illegal feel, you mean.” The commodore said.
“Call it what you will, but I think of it as a convenience.” Capt. Deep said. “Why wait through the hassle of earning up your investments only to fritter it away? But that convenience comes with a price, as I’m sure you know.”
“You mean running from the law and never having a truly settled home?” The commodore asked.
“Aye, that’s the cost I have to pay.” Capt. Deep said. “And sometimes others have to pay along with me.”
“What are you trying to say to me, Deep?” The commodore asked, with a hint of an angry look in his eye.
“I think you know what I mean, Commodore Smith.” Capt. Deep smiled evilly.
The commodore thought for a moment. “You mean sacrificing others? Having them killed so you can get away from something?”
“Yes, and I’m thinking of one person in particular. You may know who I mean Commodore.” Capt. Deep said, getting up and walking around behind him.
“My father?” The commodore said, not following her.
“Aye, you are starting to think like me, Jack.” Capt. Deep said, leaning over his shoulder.
The commodore shot up. “How dare you say such a thing? I’m nothing like you!”
“Maybe not like me, but pirate runs in your veins, Jack.” Capt. Deep said.
The commodore looked away. Then he shot his head back after thinking a moment about what she had said. “How do you know my name?”
“That’s right! I forgot to tell you that when I worked for your father he told me he had a son named Jack. Jack smith was hi name, and he told me all about you. I know a lot about you. More than you know about me. You don’t even know my first name, do ye mate?” Capt. Deep taunted.
“No, but I’m sure I can ask my son when I see him next. I won’t ever forgive you for interfering with his life either. You were the one who left the money and medicine on the table for him, weren’t you?” The commodore said. “How close have you gotten to my son?”
Capt. Deep chuckled. “You wonder don’t you?”
