The pirates headed towards the bongo drums they heard.
Capt. Deep split away from the group, and summoned the others to follow her. She was a decent length ahead though, and came to the campsite before the rest of the pirates, who had gotten lost behind her, but could eventually find her by listening to the drums. However she was in danger until then that the crew knew nothing about.
Capt. Deep burst into the native campsite with natives dancing around their flame-filled ceremonial dance. Will was being tied to a long bamboo stick, and no one noticed Capt. Deep enter the camp.
Will was tied to the pole, and he was talking to them in a language they didn’t understand; English. The pole was stood erect, and leaned towards the fire.
Capt. Deep gasped, and cried out “Stop!” in the only Indian tongue she had learned as a child.
The natives seemed to grasp and understand her words, and the drums stopped. It wasn’t going to settle well with the pirates looking for her. The natives whispered to each other, so quickly that Capt. Deep couldn’t understand them.
She ignored them, and then said in their native language “Release the captive for he must return with me at once.”
The natives scrambled in a mad rush, saying something about taking orders from “The savior”, and that the bad times were over, and how food would come soon.
Capt. Deep was joined by Will, who was equally as confused as her. Capt. Deep tried to speak with the natives, but she was having trouble finding the right translations. She hadn’t spoken the language ever since her father took her over to Spain, and they heard the history of how the Spanish had taken natives from America, and they taught the little girl a bit of their language.
She didn’t know how similar the Indian language was to the natives on the island, but maybe it was the same. She tried remembering what she learned on her trip to Spain, but it wasn’t enough. The language barrier was too strong, and Capt. Deep couldn’t follow the natives when they told her things.
She asked them to speak slower, but she couldn’t make them understand her. The words were similar, but not similar enough to complete the task she wanted completed.
She wished her crew was there. Maybe one of them would know this ancient language.
Then the natives asked her to stay where she was while they retrieved “The Book of The Ancients” as Capt. Deep interpreted the small part she could actually understand. Apparently they did speak the Indian language Capt. Deep had been using.
Will was placed in a cage near Capt. Deep while the Book was fetched.
They brought it to her, and the page that was presented to her was a picture of something that looked similar to her, that is to say, they brought out a picture of something that looked like Capt. Deep. There was Indian language written below and around the drawing. Capt. Deep couldn’t read the language. She only needed to speak two words; the first two she ever learned in Indian: “Tell me.”
The Indians read the page, but Capt. Deep couldn’t understand them as they spoke far too quickly.
Then she said the next two words she learned. “Show me.”
They gathered together, and one of them represented her. Another represented Will, and one of the natives. The others were a crowd, showing that there was some kind of ceremony to be held.
The native representing Capt. Deep pretended to kill the native and Will, and then pretended to eat them.
Capt. Deep was in shock. These natives were cannibals, and they had mistaken Capt. Deep as one of their cannibalistic gods, and had to take part in a cannibalistic ceremony.
