I seem to have left out my puppies. They're my "real" babies now that all the others have grown up.
Mookie is a terrier who's part Yorkie, but part mix so he's bigger than a Yorkie. He's about 12 pounds and looks like "Benji" from the old Disney movies. He was named after the shortest basketball player the year that we got him. He's a real sweetie. He's about 5 1/2 years old. He's totally mine, but everyone who meets him loves him. He's like a therapy dog for the kids in the neighborhood who've had bad experiences with dogs. His favorite outdoor activity (other than taking a nice walk around the block) is playing football. He is short enough that he has to put his head up high and hold the ball on the side of his mouth so that side is up and his head is cocked sideways. And then his feet sometimes get tangled with the ball and he has to set it down and pick it back up.
My other dog is named Gracie Lou (yes, Miss Congeniality was popular right before we got her). She's 4 and 1/2 years old, approximately. She's a peek-a-poo. She weighs right around 3 to 3 1/2 pounds. If she was to stand like a show dog, the top of her head would be at the top of a conventional 12-pack of pop, her nose touching one side, and her tail to the back edge. She's pretty much white, but she has small amounts of blonde hair as well. Her hair is like a poodle's hair. But we don't get her the typical poodle cut because there's just not enough of her to do it. Because of the way she will grab a toy (a very small one, usually a cat toy) and shake it while growling, she's been determined to be non-usable as a therapy dog -- too ferocious. I must say, when I allow her to play using my hand as the toy she's grabbing (which I do because most toys are so big and the size of the skin between the thumb and forefinger is perfect for her mouth), I may agree. I'm still waiting to have to explain being mauled by a 3 pound dog to some emergency room doctor.
Well, it's way past our bedtime and the doggies want to sleep. They rule.
