"A Light In The Dark" Chapter three We galloped along a river until I knew the man in purple was not following us. We stopped so Twilight could get some water and rest for a few. We were a few minutes into our rest when we herd galloping coming from the city we had just left. I climbed onto Twilight and galloped off into the shallow waters of the river, and as we rode I picked up the thoughts of the animals around us. The Wild Cats of this region talked a lot about a house of a kind lady who always gave them the remains of meals with some katnip added in to enhance flavor. I decided to go there, where I might be safe. I could hear the team of horses behind us. I turned Twilight to the east and circled the party then turning west I headed to the little cottage by a lake. I quickly found it; the cottage was built on a ledge that over looked the lake. As we trotted toward the house I gave Twilight some quick instructions, “Twilight when we get to the cottage keep on going circled around the lake and do some zigzags then come back so we may continue on our journey. I will wait here for you to return, ok?” I asked of him. “Aye mate that would be a most grand plan, now before we part may I ask your name oh young maiden who treats animals so kindly?” he asked of me in return. “Aye, my name is Kris. My mother was Victoria the shape shifter.” I said as I jumped from Twilights back. He ran off into the woods and I waited until the sound of the horses that were following us was closer then I started changing. A soft sound escaping my lips as my hands became hoofs and the raven in my hair grew shortly all around my body. The riders came into view as I started to run into the woods opposite that of Twilights path so that when he got there he would wait until I got back and he would be safe. I picked up my pace as the riders picked up there’s then when I reached an open field I picked up my pace even further that of the riders. There hoof beats slowly faded away as I ran. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to run like this. The last time I ran like this was when my mother… NO! I cannot think like that now when I reached the edge of the field I changed into a mocking bird. My raven hair turning into brown feathers and my front hooves into wings when the transformation was complete I turned a flew the way I had come the riders just entering the field, the man in purple leading the way. “Draco!!! You will get your money back but can we please slow down?” a rider called in a chain link shirt. “LORD Draco you incompetent dolt. That wasn’t MY money…IT WAS MY FATHERS. And you know that Lord Victor will be angry with me if we don’t get it back now move it. I will stay here in case the rider tries to go back to that cottage. Ok. NOW MOVE!!!!” Draco yelled as he pulled his horse to a stop, the other riders galloping ahead. I landed on his saddle horn and sang a blue-jays song. And he looked at me. His hair was as white as a freshly fallen snow and his eyes as blue as the sky on a clear summers day. He looked at me and smiled, it was like the sun shining brightly on a ice berg all the evil that I thought I heard in his voice was just an act he put his finger out towards my perched and said, “Don’t be afraid little mocking bird I will not hurt you.” His voice was like the first harvest of strawberries so sweet and warm from sitting in the sun all day. I climbed onto his little finger and he began to stoke my feathers, and then he stopped and looked into my eyes. “You are a very unusual bird,” he says in his strawberry like voice crawling all over my mind. “You have gem blue eyes I have never seen a mocking bird with blue eyes.” Dang I thought to myself I must still have my original color in them forgot to change them. Then without a second thought I flew up into the air and away from Draco, the man I think I was falling I love with.
