"A Light In The Dark" Chapter four I landed in the forest nearest to the little cottage. Changing shape and walking out I could see an old lady tending to Twilight, the black war horse looked huge in comparison to the little lady. She was running a brush up and down Twilights flank when I came near she looked at me and sighed, “Is this your horse little lady? Found him wandering around my cabin after some men ran the way you came.”, her little voice weak and feeble. I replied to the lady “He is not mine… he is my partner I do not own him. He belongs to himself and he only accompanies me on my travels. Thank you for tending to him, I kindly ask if you would allow me to bed here for the night, it would be a great help to me.” The old lady pondered this for a few moments then spoke her words, “Aye you may if you help me take care of the animals I shelter while you are here, but I’ll have you know that I don’t eat meat, and you won’t be staying in my home if you do.” I nodded in quick agreement and then said turning my attention to Twilight “If you wish you may roam but please not too far, I find you a dear friend and would be sad if I were to lose you.” Twilight rubbed on my face as agreement and went down to the lake at a trot. “You have a way with animals, may I ask your name young traveler? Mine is Mindy and if you wish you can call me Mint.” Mint asked and clamed my attention. “Aye you may, I am Kris, my mother was Victoria, you might have known her.” As the words came to my lips and were spoken the smile that was on Mint’s face faded and became one of great surprise, at first her feet moved sluggishly across the ground then they picked up speed and before Iknew it Iwas in the embrace of this strange old lady, one of love and caring. “Then you Kris are my granddaughter. Oh, this is a happy day indeed. You also can shape shift, aye?” I answered by shifting into a little brown and orange kitten with deep blue eyes. Mint lifted me up and cuddled me in her arms. The brown and orange kitten was our family’s animal. The blue or green of the eyes showed gender. As the embrace was nearing the end galloping was heard by my cat ears and my brown orange fur went to black and I jumped down from her embrace. Using the earth as a link for communication I told Twilight of the danger and he ran the other way. Mint came into my mind and said that everything would be fine.
