Biography

Wesley was born into a low class family. He met his father once or twice when he was very young, but as far as having a father figure in his life...there was no one. He was an only child, which was both good and bad for him. His mother only had to worry about feeding herself and her son and keeping them healthy, but at the same time he didn't have anyone to play or socialize with. His mother wasn't home often, and when she was she was either sleeping or stressed. Needless to say Wesley was a lonely child.

Growing up he met other inu. His first and closest friend was a German Shepherd named Nick. Nick came from a lower middle class family. He was an only child as well, but he had a father. However, he wasn't a father to Wesley. Wesley was a friend of his son's, nothing more. They caused their fair amount of trouble, as most boys do, and they each shared their troubles with one another. Wesley would spend the night at Nick's house when he was able or needed to, when his mother was unbearable to be around.

Wesley went into public school and was an average student. He had his good subjects and his best subjects. School was fun, he got to meet a lot more people. That is, it was fun as long as the inu kept to themselves, or did whatever the human students wanted to them. They were dogs after all, and didn't dogs exist to do the bidding of man? It wasn't just the kids in school that felt this way, it was their society. The inu and the neko were a minority, and they were treated that way. No matter what color the skin of the human, they were treated the worst.

But not all the time. There were the animal lovers that would stick up for them and help fight for their rights, which were few. Wesley had two human friends growing up, Dan and Susan, whom he met in elementary school. Dan was one of those big kids that always looked tough but had a soft spot for animals. Thanks to him Wesley and Nick didn't have too many hardships during their first years of their education. Later came David, a tabby neko with long blond hair and glasses who loved video games and various types of metal music. In high school he met Nixon, a great dane inu and one of the tallest students Wesley had ever seen, Annabelle, a pomeranian inu and one of the shortest he'd ever seen(but still so cute), and the twin mutts Daniel and Joshua. Daniel and Nixon started dating sometime in their sophomore year.

However Wesley didn't finish his education. When he started 10th grade things went downhill at home. His mother was unable to work as she had hurt her back somehow so he dropped out of school and got a job; which proved much more difficult and involved more sacrifices than one should have to make. Not because of his age, but because of his race. His dignity was lost when he was 15, submitting himself to a human girl that wanted him to be her 'show dog' in illegal competitions. The law wasn’t very strict on inu and neko dealings, so a lot of people could get away with a lot of things. This went on for a couple of years until he was able to get a job doing something he liked; dancing.

The pay wasn’t as good as when he was a ‘show dog’, and it certainly wasn’t as stressful, but he was free from being something he hated and regretted doing. It wasn’t much better though. Wesley enjoyed dancing, but the kind of dancing his new job wanted him to do was a notch just above stripping. It wasn’t his only job. He would fight for money and his friends, which he considered his pack, would get into skirmishes every now and then with the local riffraff. With this new job came new situations and new people, and for a while he was lost and confused. Something wasn’t right. He had his friends and saw them nearly every day, but he still felt lonely. Wesley would fall in love, or think he had, until finally his emotions were exhausted and he refused to touch another customer that seemed interested in him. Word had gotten around about him being desperate for attention, which would drag in some of the most manipulative people around. Once it was known that he wasn’t going to let people continue to use him.

It worked for a few years, and then he met Jewel. Jewel was pretty with long black hair and with nice brown skin, her eyes brown and looking like they needed a friend. She came to the club regularly and they would talk, he would find out things about her and she would find out things about him; though he kept a lid on his promiscuous behavior in the years before. She lived in almost the same financial situation he did, though you wouldn’t tell from her clothes; you could tell from her speech and movements though that she was from a much poorer place. After a month or so of this he felt like he was falling in love for real this time, and it looked the same for her. One night after he got off work they went to her apartment, which was a bad idea seeing as how she lived in an area where there were many gang fights. That night he wasn’t worried though, he was so happy to have finally found someone that meant something to him and have those feelings returned.

The next morning he was the first to wake up and felt happier than he could ever remember being. As he was putting his pants back on the door to the apartment opened and in walked a large black man that exemplified ‘gangsta’.

“Hey man who the hell are you and what the ******** are you doing in my girlfriend’s apartment?” If the question wasn’t startling enough the tone certainly was. He was loud and obnoxious and arrogant all at the same time; and in his voice Wesley immediately knew he had gotten himself into something bad. “Jewel!”

Wesley just stood there, shocked. He had no idea what this man was talking about. Girlfriend? “Wha-?”

Jewel walked into the room wearing Wesley’s shirt and looking thoroughly pissed. “Nuh uh, I have had enough of you Ramon! I am sick and tired of the way you been treatin’ me, like I’m part of your property or somethin’!” This seemed to rile him up even more and he took heavy steps towards them, and as he got closer Jewel put her hand on Wesley’s shoulder and glared at the man.

“Jewel what’s going on?” He asked, looking from Ramon to the woman pressing herself against him. “I thought you said you were single.”

“WHAT?!” When Ramon yelled, he yelled. Wesley’s ears lowered from the noise he made and he shrunk back a bit. “Not single?! You b***h, I worked hard to keep you happy and buy you nice things! And then you go and have sex with this thing?!” The man reached to grab Jewel but Wesley pushed her out of the way and punched Ramon in the face. Ramon hadn’t expected for him to fight back, much less try to keep Jewel out of harms way.

Still just as confused as before Wesley moved out of the way, looking at Jewel who seemed more concerned over Ramon being punched in the face. She looked over at him, shocked.
“Wesley what the hell are you doing?!” Jewel asked, looking at him as if he were the cause of all the trouble.

Wesley didn’t know what to say. What could he say? His mouth hung open as if he was going to speak, but it closed tightly shut before he ran for the open door and ran out of the apartment, forgetting that he was only wearing his pants. After quite a few blocks of nonstop running, he stopped at a stop sign to catch his breath. Leaning against the pole he closed his eyes and covered his face, fighting back tears. He’d been lied to, again. His hand fell to his side. Who could he go to?
‘Nick.’ Wesley thought. ‘Nick will know what to do, he always does.’

An hour and a half later, after he went home and got a shirt and shoes, he was at the German shepherd’s door and ringing the doorbell. Unlike Wesley he could afford a house. “Coming!” A minute later the door opened and a muscular man a few inches taller than him with short brown hair and kind brown eyes stood in the doorway, looking surprised and happy to see him. “Wesley! I didn’t expect to-“ then he noticed that something wasn’t right. “Come on in and tell me what happened. I’ll start a pot of coffee.”

Wesley sat at the table, next to the window, his hands cupping the coffee cup. “I thought I was done with this.” He leaned on the table and turned his head slightly to look out of the window and into the back yard. Nick sat down across from him, and although he wasn’t looking at him he knew he had a questioning expression. “I let myself get swept away again. Only this time I think I’m in deep trouble.”

“What do you mean?”

Wesley recounted the events leading up to that morning. Meeting Jewel for the first time, how they would always talk together, how he fell in love with her and thought she had fallen in love with him too, to the night before when he showed her how much he loved her and finally this morning when it all came crashing down. “It’s never been this hard.” He closed his eyes and rested his head in his hand, his ears down and tail hanging off the back of the chair. It felt like his heart was breaking and his back was bleeding from a metaphysical knife wound.

Nick rose from his chair and scooted closer to his friend, putting an arm around his shoulders and pulling him close.
“Why do you keep doing this to yourself? You know the people you meet at your work are lower than dirt; personal experience has taught you that.” He sighed lightly. After knowing Wesley since childhood he knew when the inu was crying; he wasn’t very good at hiding it. “Sorry. Why do you think this is the worst though?”

“I recognize Ramon. He’s a gang leader. Not the biggest gang, but it’s nothing to just brush off. And I’ve royally pissed him off. I don’t…I don’t know what to do. I’m sure my life is in danger.”

“I know who you’re talking about now.” Wesley felt Nick hug him tighter. “I think you should take a little vacation. When you get back you’ll have a new address and everything, all your stuff will be in another apartment.”

Wesley looked up, a wet trail of tears streaming down his face. “What?”

“A vacation. Somewhere out of the country for, let’s say, a week. Meet some new people, go somewhere you’ve always wanted to. Ireland! Haven’t you always wanted to go to Ireland?”

He was surprised. “What? Don’t be silly, none of us can afford a trip like that.”

“Not individually but I bet if we all pull our money together we can get you a round trip plane ticket.”

“No, you don’t have to. I cause enough trouble as is; I don’t want to cause you guys anymore trouble.”

Nick stood and walked over to the phone and dialed a number, putting the receiver to his. “No, we’re a pack aren’t we? This is what packs do.”

Wesley stood and ran over to the German shepherd. “No! Don’t call anyone, this isn’t their problem! I'm not a charity! NICK!”

------------

After quarreling for a bit Nick was able to subdue Wesley. The next day he was on a plane for Dublin, Ireland. While there he went to the local pubs, met lots of new and great people and had a good time. Many of the people he met were ones he’d remember for years to come, but one in particular stood out to him.

Henry was playing his violin on stage in one of the pubs he was in. He was the most talented violinist he’d ever heard, ever seen. His hair was short and dark brown, his eyes were brown as well. He moved around on stage like no one he’d seen before. Needless to say he was fascinated. After Henry’s performance he found him at the bar, sitting by himself. Wesley thought he deserved a compliment on the show, so he sat next to him and the two started talking. Henry was on tour, separate from the band he was a part of, a popular Korean band named Super Junior. He was half Canadian and half Korean, but grew up mostly in Korea. He was shy when he wasn’t playing or on stage, which made Wesley want to talk to him even more. Unfortunately they had to part ways, and before he knew it his week in Ireland was up.

Wesley returned and found that he had indeed changed addresses. He was farther away from Ramon and closer to Nick and his friends, but also had a decent commute to work. Needless to say he did feel safer, but after a while Ramon’s crew could be seen hanging around the club every once and a while. They never made direct threats, but it was clear they were keeping tabs on him. Changing addresses didn’t do much good.

After a couple months nothing serious had happened. Ramon would have his gang rough Wesley and his friends up in public, just to piss them off. They would make threats and make obscenities, and all they could do was put up with it.

One day when he was taking his paycheck to the bank he ran into the last person he ever thought he would: Henry. Wesley was both surprised and delighted to see him in Galveston. Henry pulled him into an alley where they talked for a bit. Their talk ended with Wesley offering Henry a place to stay for as long as he needed, or wanted. He still couldn’t deny that he felt lonely; hopefully living with someone would change that.

And hopefully Henry wouldn’t get caught up in Wesley’s problem. After their first night as room mates Wesley found out more about why Henry was on tour and felt more determined to watch over and protect him than before. As far as he was concerned Henry was a part of his pack, and he was set on having the rest of them feel the same. Making Henry feel comfortable and welcome became his top priority, and if he had to he’d lie to keep him safe.
