Deremek The Strange One
The voice through my head... Rune Schulte I've been named... Deremek, The Strange One What I am willing to reveal... Unknown, supposed 19 I am a... ...I don't know. I can assure you, that I am... Male I do like... Men I've been told... Deremek rarely speaks, at least in the tongue of man. He knows the words and how to make sentences, but he speaks in the tongue of the rats that he grew up around. Often found chattering or hissing, making clicking sounds and other odd noises when he’s on the surface, a very rare sight, many people avoid him. Which is just fine by him, he rather dislikes people and pretty much anything that isn’t a rat. Quite antisocial he can seem mean and vicious if encountered, and that’s because he doesn’t want anything to do with anything you have to say, you’re probably going to try and kill him anyways like people do to the rats that try to make a living in the city. He is very protective of the rats, and any time he sees one in danger he will lash out in it’s defense, though he tries to leave the sewers as little as possible. Deremek is the complete opposite of clean, and he does not give a rat’s a** about it. He turns his nose up at many of the things people consider ‘smell good’, and he refuses to bathe in anything but dirty water. The day he’s clean is the day he dies. Deremek is often accompanied by rats, it’s rare to see him without at least one hanging around him somewhere. A rare ability the boy has that he rarely speaks of is the ability to communicate with spirits. He hears them talking all around him at times, especially when he’s on the surface, and sometimes he can even see them, though that is rare. He speaks aloud and they answer him if they wish. Thanks to them he knows many things others do not, old stories and secrets of the city he lives beneath. I have lived through a lot... Deremek has never known his origin. As far back as he can remember he’s always lived in the sewer and that the rats raised him and made him a part of their massive family. The only family he knows. When he asked about where he came from even the rats were not able to say, it was the same for them. They felt he’d always been there, unchanging through time though the generations of rats continued to climb well into its hundreds. None could ever remember seeing another like him, in the sewers or on the surface. They named him The Strange One, Deremek. They taught him how to write and read in the tongue of the rats, and how to find the signs and symbols. They taught him of Reulik, the rat god that watches over and protects them, sending the humans his scorn in the form of the diseases carried by the rats as punishment for their ongoing genocide. He learned of the spirits and of their stories and that of others. He grew to despise the world above and became a recluse, never leaving the sewers. Every human he came across feared him, he smelled rancid and was always dirty, he was surely disease ridden, and he was altogether completely unnatural, a demon people would say and they shunned or tried to catch and beat him. It only earned them more scorn.
The only reason he was on the surface the day of his capture was because it had rained for so long that he had been flooded out of the sewers, along with the rest of his colony. He was unable to escape the men that came after him and they nearly killed him to rid them of his plague, but his mind was quick and intelligent and he bargained with them. Somewhere out there was a man or woman with tastes so peculiar they would want to purchase a creature such as he for a pretty penny, and when that happened the city would be rid of him. Many wanted to just kill him on the spot but he persisted and soon persuaded them, and he now sits in the slave market, waiting to be bought so he might try and run back to his sewer home. Crowding my collar is... Star, moon, cyan, teal, red If I could choose... Cruel, mean, a challenge or opposing force, strong willed I am the property of... Held
