Are You Listenin'?
Just a journal of thoughts.
Confessions
Marcy: Don't you think that's a bit...odd?
Jason: Why would it be odd?
Marcy: Because...it's your mom.
Jason: So?
Marcy: (awkward chuckle) I wouldn't wanna see my mom like that.
Jason: It's natural, Marcy.
Marcy: I don't think it is, no.
Jason: Well, that goes to show you, we think differently.
Marcy: But it's your mom. Moms are suppose to wear aprons and bake pies.
Jason: Wow, I can't believe that you--a woman--just said something so...sexist.
Marcy: But it's true.
Jason: My mom never baked. Does that not make her a mom?
Marcy: No, but--
Jason: But what? She never hugged me as a child. Does that make her a bad mom?
Marcy: Okay, apparently I can't express my thoughts with you.
Jason: Oh, no, you can express your thoughts with me...when they're yours.
Marcy: ...What do you mean?
Jason: It's clear that you don't really think that.
Marcy: No?
Jason: No...Isaac said that...didn't he?
Marcy: (sighs) ...But it makes sense--
Jason: It's sexist.
Marcy: This coming from the man who sees women as sex objects.
Jason: But I don't see them as slaves to the kitchen. And my sex life has nothing to do with our conversation, Marcy.
Marcy: What is your deal, Jason?
Jason: My deal?
Marcy: Yeah! Your deal. Or maybe I should be more blunt; what the ******** is going on with you lately? If I even mention Isaac's name, you go off on a rampage.
Jason: (chuckles) This is hardly a rampage.
Marcy: No, but it will turn into one. See, I know you that well.
Jason: No, you don't.
Marcy: Then, you don't know me. I don't know you and you don't know me.
Jason: Yes, I do, Marcy. I'll be damned if I don't know you.
Marcy: Then, you're damned.
Jason: I know you don't think that way.
Marcy: Yes, I do.
Jason: So, you'd be happy stuck home all day? Cooking and cleaning up after that pig you call a man?
Marcy: He is not a pig!
Jason: He's a cop; that makes him a pig.
Marcy: I think you're a pig.
Jason: (chuckles) Because I'm a whore?
Marcy: Yeah, that's not funny, Jason. You're a pig and you disgust me.
Jason: Hmm, funny you didn't seem to think that when you kissed me three years ago.
Marcy: Yeah, listen to yourself Jason--three years ago. I was naive, foolish, in love...

Marcy shuts up and Jason looks at her.

Jason: ...You were in love with me?
Marcy: (sighs) ...Yes.
Jason: You never said anything--why didn't you say anything?

Marcy looks at him and scoffs.

Marcy: I saw you with her, Jason. I saw you with your "chick of the week."
Jason: ...What?
Marcy: (sighs) ...I was shopping with my mother--I wanted to get you a present--and I saw you with Amber. Flirting with her, touching her the way you touched me, kissing her the way you kissed me...looking at her, (gulps) the way you looked at me... (sniffs) You played me well.
Jason: I--
Marcy: What? You what? It didn't mean anything? She meant nothing to you? Even after I asked you to stop calling me, you were still with her, Jason. And many others!
Jason: Well, what did you expect?
Marcy: To hurt like I was hurting! (scoffs) When you love someone you...you want to be with them. You want to kiss that person, and only that person.
Jason: Marcy, there are different types of love.
Marcy: Yes, and you never felt the love I felt for you, Jason...The sad thing is, I actually waited for you to grow out of...this phase. (weak chuckle) But here you are...the same Jason.
Jason: ...Is that why you're marrying Isaac?
Marcy: (nods her head) He wants to be with me.
Jason: (shakes head) He'll never love you the way I do, Marcy.
Marcy: Maybe...but he'll always be faithful to me.
Jason: You can't guarantee that, Marcy.
Marcy: (shrugs shoulder) Maybe not...but when I'm with him...I know he's only been with me that day and yesterday...When will this phase end for you? I don't know and, frankly, I don't care anymore. I know better than to chase after some Ken doll. (chuckles) I might as well settle for the average Joe.

Jason looks into her eyes.

Jason: I've always loved you, Marcy--I never stopped.
Marcy: I know. (sniffs) And I'll always hold a special place for you... (smiles) Still friends?

Jason nods his head and looks at the ground. Marcy leans in to kiss him. Jason turns his head to meet with her lips, when Isaac walks in.

Isaac: Marcy?

Marcy quickly turns around and smiles.

Marcy: Darling. (gets up to hug him)
Isaac: (hugs back) Ready to go?
Marcy: Mm-hmm.

Marcy turns to face Jason, who's looking at the ground.

Let's hang out before the wedding.
Jason: (looks at her) Yeah.
Marcy: Okay. (sighs and faces Isaac) Ready?
Isaac: Yeah. (to Jason) Nice seeing you again.
Jason: Yup.

Jason gets up and walks to his car.

Isaac: (to Marcy) He doesn't like me.
Marcy: (chuckles) He's like that at first.
Isaac: I guess. (kisses her on the lips) I love you.
Marcy: ...I love you, too. (smiles)

Isaac and Marcy walk to the car, holding hands. Jason watches them from his car and sighs sadly.

Jason: (to self) ...You're a moron to let her go.

A woman walks by Jason's car and he watches her.

The End.
