Chapter 9 - Remus
"Kirya ndu n'uma quel." The man who seemed to pilot the ship seemed a bit worried.

"Amin hosta," another man beside him said.

"Re tessa," the first said with a voice of renewed confidence.

"What are they saying," Arnath asked.

Sephfireka smiled, "You've traveled this far, and you've never heard the language?" Receiving no response he continued, "Then i'll teach it to you when we've got the time, don't worry about it."

The ship's movement came to an abrupt halt as if it had crashed. "Woah," Arnath exclaimed, almost losing his balance.

"What they were saying," Sephfireka stated, "was that it was going to be a bumpy landing."

After a moment the exiting passageway opened. The same two men from before went first, again skillfully jumping from the platform. The ladder was let down as the men secured it below.

Once he had reached the bottom, Arnath let go of the ladder, splashing into the water. Looking up he saw the beautiful wall of Remus. Durango, being the last person off the ship, jumped off and splashed below. "That there," he began, "Is the outer wall of the great city of Remus." The wall seemed to stretch down both countrysides for miles, farther then the eye could see. "Along with the river we just landed in, the wall offers the city great protection and reenforcement. No other nation would dare attack Remus. The river also seemed very large for a natural river, traveling along all sides of the walls. Arnath looked closer at the walls to reveal that they were covered with markings. "Engraved by the founders of Remus," Durango continued.

"How did you know I was looking at the wall?" Arnath asked.

"Well, it is your first time here is it not? Most people do look at the walls first, since it's the first part of Remus available to see from the outside." Arnath nodded. "Your body language too."

"Am I that easy to read?" Arnath asked.

"Not really," Durango answered, smiling. "I just have a lot of practice being around a lot of people...Anyway, the marking are supposed to be magic. Protective enchantments, you could call them."

"Interesting," Arnath said.

Sephfireka pat him on the back. "Well, shall we sit around here and look at the pretty markings or are we going to check out the city?"

The group temporarily split up once they arrived within the city, noting that they would meet back at the airship in no later than two days. Arnath walked alone along the streets, astonished by the number of people and buildings.

"Hey," someone said. Arnath turned around to see who had called out. "Yes, you." The man walked over, halting a step away from him. A long, unbuttoned, red trenchcoat covered most of his body. His blonde hair stood up out of his face, though sunglasses covered his eyes. "Vash."

"Beg your pardon?" Arnath said.

"My name," he said. "Vash."

"Oh...okay."

The man drew a gun from the inside of his coat, pointing it at Arnath. A loud bang went off as the gun fired a single blast. After a moment, Vash holstered his gun and looked at Arnath, who was lying on the ground. "Get up," Vash ordered. "You need to learn not to do that. Alright?"

Arnath rose. "What is wrong with you?" he yelled. "You scared me half to death!"

Vash shrugged. "Only half to death, eh? At least you're not dead."

"Oy..."

"So anyway," Vash began, "I got a question for you."

"Shoot," Arnath said, immediately after correcting himself. "No wait, don't shoot."

"I know what you meant." Vash said. He scratched his head, looking up at nothing, his other hand at his cheek. "You ever heard of Saiya-jins?"

"No, I haven't," Arnath said.

"Useless!" Vash screamed, unholstering his gun. Arnath jumped behind a passing townsperson, holding them in front of him. "I'm only kidding," Vash said.

"Hey!'' the townsperson yelped.

Arnath let the person go, as Vash scratched his head again with the hilt of the gun. "You know, I wouldn't hurt anyone really."

"Really," Arnath said doubtingly.

"Yup," Vash said, smiling. "In fact, if I ever saw you in trouble, I'd come to your rescue."

"Uh, thanks," Arnath said. At that comment, Vash ran off into the crowd of people that wandered the streets. Suddenly, a young girl jumped out into the road, lunging at Arnath with a staff.

"Woah, Arnath yelled, knocking the staff with his arm in a block. "Can I help you?" he asked. He grabbed the staff with opposite hand and pulled it away. Rephrasing the question he asked, "May I help you?"

The girl lowered her head and grunted. After a moment she then punched Arnath in the jaw. "I know you know where my father is, so tell me!"

Arnath adjusted his jaw. "I don't even know who you are, so how can I tell you where your father is? What is with this city?"

The girl introduced herself. "My name is Princess Dimo," she said with pride, "And my father is Prince Vegita."

Arnath thought back in his memory. "Vegita? Sounds familiar, but I don't know him." Dimo grunted once again. "Would you like me to help search for him?" She sniffled, whimpered and nodded. "Where did you last see him?"

"I didn't," she said. Arnath thought again to himself. Dimo lowered her head and began to cry.

"I'll do what I can," Arnath said bluntly.

"I never met him because I was sent here when I was a baby right before my home town was destroyed," she said, crying even harder.

"I understand how you feel..." Arnath said, trying to comfort her a bit. "I never knew my father either. My mother died when I was very young. I've grown to be on my own." Dimo nodded. "It isn't easy, but I'll try to help you find him."

"Thank you..." she said, before hugging him and crying on his chest. A moment passed before she blushed and realized what she was doing. She stepped back, apologizing.

"It's ok," Arnath insisted. "It must be hard...though looking to others for help is natural when an obstacle is in your way that is too big to handle." A quick yet awkward silence fell. "I'm not saying you can't handle this on your own." Dimo blushed, turning around embarrassingly. "What's the matter?"

"Nothing..." she said, her cheeks turning a bright red. She turned back around to face him as her royal robes spun with the turn.

Some time passed, the two talking and learning more about each other. Sharing their thoughts and ideas made Dimo feel a bit better about her situation.

Looking at her, Arnath asked, "Where do you live now? In the mountains? The forest?"

Dimo shrugged. "...I don't have anywhere to live. I just keep walking."

"Must be tiring," Arnath said. She nodded. "You should take a rest at the inn." She followed him as he led her to nearest lodge. She walked in and placed herself on the couch. Arnath started a fire in the fireplace, before he noticed Dimo had fallen asleep. He sat down in a chair next to her and rested his eyes. The fire roared behind him in its place. A few other people sat in the lounge, one or two looking over at the girl who had fallen asleep.

After some time had gone by, Dimos eyes flickered open. She groaned while sitting up. "Want some dinner?" Arnath asked. Some meat was cooking behind him in the fireplace.

"What is it?" Dimo asked.

"If I tell you, will you still eat it?"

Dimo blinked, wondering if it were safe. "Maybe. I'm a Saiya-jin...I'll eat anything edible."

Arnath's eyes widened, as he almost jumped out of his seat. "You're a Saiya-jin!" he exclaimed.

"Yes," she stated. "What of it?"

"N-nothing," Arnath said. His thoughts reverting to the food, Arnath wondered for a moment if she could handle it. "Here try it." He handed her a piece, her eyes widening at the looks of it.

He bit into his piece, as she followed in doing the same. After a moment she shrugged and gobbled up the whole thing. Arnath poured some ale. "Would you like a cup?"

"...Sure..." Dimo said. "Is it liquor?"

"Yes," Arnath simply said.

Dimo blushed a little because she usually got drunk real easy, but didn't say anything. "Sure I'll have one."

He handed her a cup. Dimo tasted it, her facial expression showing a sign of liking. "Mmm...thats good."

She gulped it down, her cheeks having a drunken blush to them.

Dimo almost immediately finished it. "Yummy!" she said, beginning to look very drunk.

Arnath drank some directly from the flask and wiped his mouth. "Are you ok?"

Dimo had fallen over soon after. She giggled as she lied on the couch, Arnath then placing a pillow under her head. He stayed awake that night, keeping the fire alive. The others within the lounge didn't mind, since they didn't have to work for their heat anymore.

Once dawn had come, Arnath left the tavern in search of Sephfireka. Coincidentally, they bumped into each other just outside. "Hey, Arnath."

"Sephfireka," Arnath began. "I was just going to ask if I could explore the terrain outside the city."

Sephfireka rolled his eyes. "People around the world would die to come to this city, and you want to go walk around some forest trails?" Arnath stared blankly at him. "...I'll tell Durango."
