Adam opened his eyes, everything around him was watery, blurry, and he felt immensepain. He felt a small pinch in his arm and his vision faded to black.
His eyes opened again, this time he could see. Not clearly, but he could make out objects. A nurse in a tight fitting shirt was reading a chart. Her breasts stuck out and his eyes had wandered there. The nurse looked at him and he fell back into darkness.
Again he woke. This time he wasn't greeted by breasts, but by a doctor in a white coat. He must have just finished lunch, he was chewing loudly with his mouth open. A nurse beside him, now in scrubs, was saying something. His vision was still slightly blurry and he couldn't read her lips because of this. The doctor nodded and looked at Adam straight in the eyes. He grinned and he gestured to the nurse. She handed him a scalpel and the doctor fit it under Adams eye-
"********!" Adam shouted, he sat up. There was no doctor, no nurse. He was just sitting in a little room with a bandage on his hand. Small blood stains leaked through the bandage and he remembered what happened. Jeff tried to kill him at the diner. He saw it in his eyes, a woman surrounded by cloth hiding her breasts and smiling, smiling at him as if she could see what was about to happen. He knew she was some sort of demon, knew she was making Jeff do the things he did. He wondered for a moment if that she-demon was Kan-Ket. Maybe, but Kan-Ket hadn't taken the appearence of a woman, so maybe she was a different one and Demons are bound by their own sex. Jeff had chased him and threw something at him, a rock maybe. Than he stabbed Adam in the hand with a fork from the diner. Everything cleared up and he could see nearly well. Things close up to hm were blurry, but that's what he had glasses for. He saw he had a table beside him and found a container with his contacts in them. He easily placed them in his eyes and blinked three times, setting them in the right position. A cold draft floated by and he shivered. He was wearing his clothes, except his hoodie with sat on a coat rack only a few feet away. He pulled himself out of bed and drifted to the coat rack. He pulled the hoodie off of it and put it on, giving him his warmth back. He'd never understood why hospitals were so cold, or at least why this one was. The door opened beside him and a fat doctor with his hair combed back walked in. His hair was grey and he had the face of someone who had just taken a dump. He let Adam go through the door, stepping aside and shifting his weight over.
He was out of the hospital and it looked like it might rain. He pulled the hood of his hoodie over his head and stuffed his hands in its pockets. The rain came down an instant later.
pat-pat-pat-pat-pat.
The sound of the rain hitting the hoodie was strangely soothing when it would have annoyed Adam if the circumstances were different. He knew where he had to go now. The darkness where he'd been alone with his thoughts had told him where.
Adam went to jail.
"Drunk?"
"That's right sir."
"So what I'm getting is: You're friend, Jeffery-"
"Just Jeff."
"Jeff, was drinking when he stabbed you?"
Adam nodded, he turned his gaze to Jeff, who sat in the back of the cell. A few other guys were in there, all trying to look tough but only succeeding in looking constapated. Adam had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing. The cop mumbled something under his breath when he grabbed the keys and strode to the cell. He stuck the keys in, gave one swift turn, and pulled Jeff out under the gaze of five angry cellmates. The cop pushed Jeff into Adam, who barely caught him, and slammed the cage shut. Jeff's eyes met Adam's and he saw the Lady. She smiled and sucked on her finger, seducing him. The two left the jail and went straight to their aparment. Twenty minutes later, Adam burst into the jail. He looked at the cell and saw it was empty. He scratched his head and walked to the police officer, who was looking at a playboy magazine with a cigarette hanging onto his lip. He looked at Adam, having just seen him only a few minutes ago.
"What you wanna another prisoner?" He asked with an eyebrow raised. "Look kid, ya can't keep comin in n' taking these fellas. You got your buddy now go home."
"Wait, what?" Adam asked, his heart beat getting faster. "When did I come in?"
"Are you ********' retarded or somethin? Not twenty minutes ago!" The cop stood up, his beer belly stretching his blue police shirt over his groun. It was a miracle that the buttons hadn't fallen off yet. He brandished his billy-club and swung it inches away from Adam's nose. "Get outta here! I know yer just hangin 'round to trick ol' Grady an it ain't happenin! Now git!" He swung again and Adam sprinted out the door, rubbing the back of his head.
Night descended as Adam ran, he heard a booming laughter growing louder and louder with each few steps he took, he knew where the laughter was coming from, night was coming and it was going to be a full moon tonight. A full Demon Moon. He saw little wisps of air coming from the ground below him, as if it were on fire. The sky turned a blood red, buildings cast their shadows on the road in front of him and their walls grew some sort of plant that creeped across the walls and sank their roots randomly. Trees curled, dropped their leaves, and turned black. All in an instant. He didn't know what happened to the people, if they changed with the town, and he didn't care. He had to save Jeff from the Demoness. Adam sped up his pace to a near sprint. He wasn't athletic whatsoever and he got tired quickly. But he kept his pace, feeling his lungs burn in his chest. The grass began to turn blood red and the town of Canterview looked like a mimic of the demon Kan-Ket's world. The moon's teeth began to bleed as if it had just fed on someones blood like a vampire. The bead of blood struck the road in front of Adam and melted straight through it creating a put in it's wake. Adam stopped himself as soon as the drop hit the ground. The pit went on for what seemed like forever. Adam gazed down the pit and heard skittering sounds, then teeth. The pit had turned into a giant maw, crimson tentacles reaching up to grab him and pull him into their masters gullet. Adam jumped back and ran around the maw, not looking back because he was afraid of seeing the tentaces. The sky's crimson sky was broken when a fleet of dark clouds invaded them. The clouds thundered and rained. The rain was normal, clear, water. Not blood. This brought a smile to Adams face even though the world around him was still changing into Hell.
He came to his apartment building which was strangely the only building clean of the creeping plant, and opened the door. The knob turned easily, but he didn't have to use any force to open the door. It just swung right open, welcoming him home. He slowly crept through the doorway and stopped. Small chit chit chit sounds found their way into the room. He heard thousands of tiny legs racing across the floor. He brought his cellphone out of his pocket and cast the light of it's screen onto the floor.
What seemed like millions of spiders covered the ground. They were all black with their tiny eyes all focused on him. Their legs raced across the ground towrad him, falling over each other to get to their meal. Adam dropped his phone on the ground and the spiders raced over it, blocking out the phones light. His heart pounded in his chest, faster and faster. Sweat raced down his cheeks, his forhead, and Adam gulped. There was a lump in his throat from the fear that was presented to him. The army of spiders began to climb up his legs, slipping under his jeans and onto the flesh. He began slapping the jeans, trying to get rid of the spiders, but it was no use. The spiders began to form two large moving bulges in his jeans, getting larger with each thousand spiders that entered. Soon he was covered in spiders, all chewing his skin and finding their ways into his body. He fell to his knees and tried to close his eyes, but felt ten tiny arms lift the eye-lids up, felt them bite into the eyes themselves. He tried to scream only to have thousands pour into his throat. He felt like he was going to die.
This is it, dead and gone. Hope they choke on my balls. Adam died seconds after these thoughts, his body invaded by millions of invaders. Every piece of skin was eaten, every organ.
Not even his skeleton was left.
Blinking eyes swept across the area like a general observing a battle between his forces and the enemy general's. The town was invaded, turned into a harvesting land, just like every other town their plague had invaded, and Haphural watched while he was the Land. His eyes looked deep into the blood well, which allowed him to see into different dimesions. He was the brother of Kan-Ket and the Lady, the more merciful and youngest of the band of demons. He had no heart, only a pit sat in his chest where it should have been, but he needn't a heart to feel merciful. A mortal, the one his brother, Kan-Ket, had spoken of. The human had walked into one of the Lady's traps, one of her favorites too. A low wire that would be tripped once the door was fully opened would release her young, who would feed on the victim who happened to be in the wrong place. He saw this victim, this Adam, was quickly swept over and engulfed in Lady's young. Although Halphural often laughed at a humans demise, this one almost saddened him. Almost. The mortals quest was a noble one, aye, that was true to even a demon like Kan-Ket, so this fate was nothing short of a disappointment. Halphural didn't like that. He stood up from his chair made from human and animal skulls, brought his outstretched hand over the humans fate, and created a fist. When he opened the fist, a tiny ball of light floated in his palm. The ball was grey, not pure but he didn't care for that, purity meant little to a demon. The ball of light began to change into a human form. First it was a fetus, tiny, almost a hair to Halphural. Then, it got larger, a baby, a toddler, teen, and then adult. The soul ceased changing when it reached the age the mortal had been when it died. The mortal was naked, clothes couldn't be brought back because they weren't alive. When the mortal, Adam, awoke from his slumber, he tottered in the demons hand. He gained his balance easily though, and stared at the demon's face.
When Adam died, his soul was sent upward, through the crimson skies and ebony clouds. His soul had made it as far as the clouds before it was yanked down back to Earth. When it aged back into it's "death age" Adam lived twenty-one years in the palm of a hand in a sort of "stasis." Now he was back, and naked. Adam looked at the demons face, which was a clean, pure black head. There were no features on it's head, just darkness. It was giant too, being able to hold him in it's palm and even fully grown, he was no bigger than it's nail. It wore wore armor that had spiked skull pauldrons, a long cape that was the color of blood. It reminded Adam of a demonic general. When it spoke, the voice reminded Adam of a long-time smoker, the Demon's featurless head grew a mouth from the darkness.
"Adam, son of Joseph, I have brought you back into the mortal realm. You will serve..." Halphural said, "as a messenger for me." The demon waved it's hand over Adam and he felt some weight drop onto his shoulders. Adam was covered in a black duster, the kind from an old western movie. The duster's bottom had images of skulls, all of them with a hole between their eye, and they were moving. The Demon wasn't done though, he opened his other hand and a weapon materialized, being only a blob of swirling purple fire, then taking on the shape and size of the weapon. It floated in the center of the palm. At first, Adam was wary, but when the Demon moved the two hands close to Adam could walk to the weapon, he felt he had no choice. He was being given a weapon, so why would the Demon do that? If only to use him of course.
The weapon was in the shape of a revolver, only it was pure black, the handle made from black steel. It was weighted perfectly for Adam. He fit his hands around it easily and the weight was like a feather. The gun had a picture of a demon on the barrel, it was silver and stuck out on the guns dark metal. Adam lifted the gun, he was awestruck and didn't believe he had such a weapon. The demon's mouth, the only feature on it's face, smiled showing it's dark sharpened teeth.
"Now, you will serve me with the weapon of Vengence," Halphural said. "Kill my sister, the one you know as the Lady, and my brother Kan-Ket. Kill them and their servents. I have given you the equipment of my Death-Dealer. A sacred position to be had. Long has this been passed down and used by the mightiest of warriors. Now, Adam, this is yours. " The Demon said something that Adam couldn't understand, and suddenly, Adam was wrapped in a black cloak that squeezed until he was nothing but air, and he was thrust into the human world once again. No questions, no way-point. Only a mission.
