"Hey boy." The old man's voice rasped over the noises of the thinning traffic. "Where're you heading?"
"Temi." The boy called from behind him. The old man whistled.
"Long way to travel. I'm only goin' as far as Katki forest."
"Thank you if you'll take me that far."
The old man paused in thought for a moment. He'd delt with a few run aways in his life. The rich ones tended to buy people off, or didn't have any sense of graditude. Well, it had been a short conversation so far.
"How do you plan to get to Temi after I drop ya off?"
"I'll walk."
"Long way to walk. An' through the forest. Dangerous."
"I'll be okay."
"Ya ever been in a public forest before?" The boy didn't answer. Thet rode quietly for a while until traffic was no longer visable on the road. "Ya should come an' sit up here, so I don' have ta shout." A tapping sound over his right shoulder answered. He looked over to see the boy walking, perfectly balanced, on the edge of the wagon. He dropped down into the seat next to the old man and grinned. The old man grinned back. He had an odd look about him, but in an innocent, exotic way. His teeth were strait and white, there was not a blemish on his skin, and his eyes were bright amber, framed by long eyelashes. The old man was reminded of stories of elves and the like.
