Memento Mori
Remember you are mortal, remember you will die.
Revised: Betrayal

[[OoC: I was hoping to make some bonding scenes with Mura, Tetsuia, and Fuji, but I really really can't get this scene out of my head and IT MUST BE WRITTEN DOWN NAO! X_X

This is the revised version of the Betrayal scene found in the latter parts of journal. Sidenote: Wow. When I wrote this, I always thought Tetsu-han was the one wearing the purple longcoat. Now, it's Mura...heh heh.

Anyways, the original vision of this tidbit mixed in with a conversation with Kraise-san and Varwin-san, the "Aryas", the red-clad warrior-gods of Astra. Kraise-san is an ex-god though he holds the status with Varwin holding the current position. This will be included at the end of the chapter. Thanks to xX_Yuu-Chan_Xx who reinspired me to revise this work. ]]

-------------------------

Snow sheeted the road and blanketed the roofs. Snow white contrasted with night black. The little snowmen which children made stood defiantly against a man in a purple longcoat and pants, trudging his way over the half-foot of snow.

Tetsuia, wiping the cold white gunk off the sleeves of his longcoat and the top of his hat, looked upwards at the hands of the tallest building in Astra, the clock tower which had pointed 4 on the big hand and 3 on the short one. The tower like all the buildings of the town had been decorated by lights of red and green with small circles of holly decorating the doorways.

However, these things were only a fleeting concern. From the shadows of the stairs leading into an alleyway, a figure in purple popped out, sporting similar tastes in clothes to Tetsuia. However, this figure was a girl with black hair and black contacts, effacing her blue eyes from the rest of the world.

Both stared at each other and gave a quick smile.

"Are you ready to go, Fuji?"

"I've been ready twenty minutes ago, b*****d. I told you three o'clock."

Hands moved defensively as the girl made threatening movements to the man.

"I overslept. Ha ha."

"Idiot." Fujitaki's disdain was obvious as she crossed her arms, giving Tetsuia a scrutinizing look.

"Moron." Tetsuia returned that look with a glare of his own, striking a similar pose to the woman in front of him.

"b***h." The word was laced with elegant venom as it left the woman's mouth.

"Whore." The reply made with a tone of finality.

Fujitaki snickered before saying with a wink, "Can't argue with that." and took a small bow. The thin dagger on her holster made a slight thunk on the side of a red buggy, left unattended for Christmas Eve. Tetsuia only snickered before pulling Fuji into a small embrace.

Several moments of peace passed before both let go, the sappiness overriding their normally unbridled selves.

"So where will we be going, missus?" A false Westerner accent highlighted every syllable of his words as he moved his body into a slight bow, a hand outstretched as he looked expectantly at her.

"Anywhere, but here..." Her eyes took on a wistful look, the look of imagining a faraway dream. Her white gloved hand was embraced by the fingers of his hand.

"I'll take you there. We'll never have to lay eyes upon this place again...", whispered Tetsuia with resolute eyes as he pulled her in for another embrace.

"Yup. It's time to.." Her eyes closed peacefully as she accepted the hug..

Bang.

The sound of a single fired shot ringed through the air. With horror etching his face, Tetsuia felt something warm tickling the tips of his fingers while the smell of iron ringed into the air. His professional side already what his mind tried to reject; she was dead...shot straight through the heart.

----------------------------------------

"Tet?"

"Yeah?" The smoke of a cigarette rose passively in the small motel room.

"After this...don't you simply want to go away?" Blue eyes stared at the slow rotating ceiling fan, creaking slightly with every revolution. Red lipstick shining dimly with the lantern light. "To go away from this life...this place?"

"..." The creak of a rocking chair moved back and forth, shoulder-length messy black hair mussing up with every pass. An exhale of smoke filled the air above him. His lips moved to say..

"Yes...I do."

"Will you come with me then?", the woman said with a smile. That knowing smile. She already knew the answer.

A comfortable silence passed over the two as the winter snow fell.

-----------------------------------------------

His own heart transformed from warmth into stone cold in a single moment, slowly lying the girl to her eternal rest in the snow. Eyes moved to where he heard the shot and the remnants of his heart broke.

Tearing black eyes met stone cold ones at the end of the dead-end road. The owner of those eyes wore a black longcoat, a silver revolver pointed in his direction. Realization dawned at the identity of this man. His small frame, impassive aura, and a simple-thin shortsword tied onto his waist. Long black hair reaching down to the center of his back.

Tetsuia felt a desperate scream escape from lungs,

"MURA!"

Betrayal, sadness, anger. Emotions Tetsuia thought he had forsaken returned to the forefront his mind. His shock simply nailed him place even with the barrel of the silver gun pointed straight at him.

This couldn't possibly be. This can't be true. Aren't we friends? Aren't we brothers?

Before Tetsuia could utter a word or even react, Mura only gave him one last glance with his impassive eyes before he bounced off the building walls and onto the roof of the small apartment.

Immediately, Tetsuia started to give chase.

He needed answers. He knew that if he reached Mura that this entire thing could be fixed.

His thoughts were stopped by four people who appeared behind a wall and surrounded his form. A final glance went to the girl in the snow, pure white stained to a rosy red. With the pale red still in her face, it almost appeared she was peacefully sleeping...

but she..was not.

He lost her. And it was someone who he could call....his best friend that killed her. He was betrayed. He was pained. He was broken.

He wanted vengance. And anyone in his way was going to die.

Tetsuia drew his sword out of its scabbard as his attackers approached, prepared to bet everything he had. Even his life if need be.
