The heavy green, blue, and brown shimmering fabric floated behind me in an ethereal manner and I slid up coldly next to Jasper, who promptly strode forward as soon as I was next to him. I followed just an inch behind, my strides long and flowing thanks to Jade's blood. We entered into the dark tent, which was lit by several enormous candles, casting smoky shadows on the six incredibly pale faces. Only three small vampires stepped forward and one at a time cast one pale hand backwards and announced those sitting behind them. The first attendant, garbed completely in dark red, spoke as if in song, "Our lord, bearer of the sword, Truigen."
The first of the vampires sitting down, stood up to an astonishing height in his heavily designed crimson garbs and bowed low, his jet black hair draping almost down to the floor in waves of ink. I curtsied almost down to the floor and gathered myself delicately up again, breathing, "Lord Truigen, bearer of the sword."
The second attendant, in a short dark blue dress, danced forward and said smoothly, "Our lord of the people, Kourne." The second of the Council stood up quickly, his dark grey and blue robes swirling from the movement and bowed, his nose almost touching the floor, but his white hair stayed perfectly in place. I was beginning to think it was a contest to see who could bow lowest, but then gathered my long skirts up and curtsied just as low, murmuring, "Kourne, lord of the people."
The third attendant, was dressed head to toe in white and strode forward. With a voice I cannot describe they spoke, "The queen of the underworld, Delahra Treo Mandulche Canurio." The last vampire, was already standing and let out a trilling, perfect sonnet in a language I had never heard. She was suddenly silent and I began to curtsy but her voice made me stop, "Sing."
I opened my mouth to protest but Jasper reached over and swatted my hand. I almost drew back and punched him but held myself in and began to sing in the best way I knew how. My words weaved and carried through the notes dancing in the octaves, hitting the highest notes and dropping my voice low and sensually. When I was finished I took a step back to my place next to Jasper and Delahra stood and spoke curtly, "You sing like a bird, but nothing like an angel."
My face burned with indignation as she turned away from me an towards Jasper, she spoke with velvety smoothness, "You know the rules. Sing." Jasper stepped forward and sang with breath-taking assurance and beauty. He too sang in a language I did not understand and the haunting tones swept into my ears and danced in my head. My vision swam and I felt as if I was falling into a stupor but caught myself and kept my head clear of his song. When he was finished and stepped back I did not like the glint in Delahra's eyes. She sauntered forward and smirked at Jasper, "You are truly an enchanter. Will you accept my invitation?" Jasper shook his head slightly and kissed her outstretched hand with no emotion in his face, "It was a pleasure to see you again."
I stiffened at the jealousy pumping viciously through my veins and turned my head slightly to the left to look at the two men vampires sitting down, simply observing and spoke roughly, "Lord Truigen and Kourne," I turned back to the woman vampire and had venom laced into every syllable, "Queen Delahra Treo Mandulche Canurio." They all looked at me slightly surprised, but Delahra was the first to retaliate, "Why do you speak with such insolence wretch?"
I narrowed my eyes slightly, "Because I was summoned forth, not Jasper, to be questioned by your wise council. And I intend that we do just that and move on."
She pointed a perfect, pale finger at me rigidly, "Mind your place."
Truigen rose slightly from his chair and spoke with a rich, low voice, "Queen, please, take your seat, we should move on with proceedings." She hissed at him but returned to her seat, flicking a finger at me and speaking as she slid back into her seat more sensually than needed, "So why do you fight for us, Were?"
I took a step forward, "I fight for you because I have been wronged and betrayed by my own kind. But then again I have also been maligned by your kind more than once. At this point I could, with a clear conscience, walk away and not give a damn."
Truigen stroked his chin, "I have heard from others that you are incredibly lethal, more lethal than our best vampires, but looking at you now, I don't see the tiniest inklings of that."
I continued, "Of course you wouldn't. I haven't shifted, and my secret weapon is resting inside."
Kourne shifted in his chair, "Secret weapon?"
I nodded, "Cecily, queen of the weres lives inside of me."
Delahra interjected, "That's impossible! Not only do the weres have no such hierarchy but Cecily is dead! I saw her fall with my own eyes!"
I shook my head, "Yes, her body died, but my friend witnessed her soul drifting into mine while I was severely injured."
Truigen leaned forward, "Yes, I could see this, but how do we know you are not lying? And why would the queen of the weres consent to fighting against her own kind?"
I whispered, "I'll let you talk to her."
Kourne stiffened and Delahra looked peeved while Truigen leaned ever farther forward as I let my eyes roll back into my head.
I thought softly, Cecily... they wish to speak to you.
Her voice was slightly bored, I shall speak to them... and let you watch. These proceedings are important.
I sighed, Whatever. I wouldn't mind if you scared Delahra out of her wits.
She chuckled, Watch my dear.
I watched the proceedings curiously and saw the wonder in Truigen and Kourne's eyes as a completely different voice emitted from my body and Delahra's lips draw into a straight line.
When she was finished she returned and gave me a slight mental push, Go on. I'm done talking to the dummies.
I thanked her silently and returned to true consciousness, shaking my head slightly to clear my thoughts.
Truigen stared at me and Kourne had a small smile upon his lips. I looked at Delahra and she scoffed, "Doesn't make her better than any of us."
I rolled my eyes, "Who said it made me better? I'm just a berserk when she takes over in battle. I have it harder because I can't control anything I do when she takes over, I just watch the bloodbath. You should count yourself lucky Queen, and stop looking down on already lowered people."
I turned around and whooshed out of the tent, my hands balled into fists. Jasper rushed out after me and cried, "Sakir! Please... don't do this again.." I turned around to him sharply, my face contorted with jealousy and rage, "You should accept her invitation and ******** her, I'm sure she'd enjoy that. As for your entire race.. I'm done. None of you care about anyone else but yourselves. The only vampires I will ever show kindness to again are Jade and Darius. I fight for no one, I fall for no one, I die for no one."
I grabbed a small knife out of my pocket and slit my wrist, letting the blood drip onto the sand in front of him, creating pools of brown and red liquid. I said bitterly, "There. That's all you wanted from me anyways." I dropped the knife and turned my back, running off into the woods, my face scrunched, my hair flying out of its elegant holdings, and my heart flying away with the breeze. I was surely going insane. Where would I go?
