Sakir
The next day I woke up to Darren pulling me out of bed, much to my displeasure. I groaned, "Darren what the hell, it's not even light outside yet!"
He cupped his hand over my mouth, "Shut up... I'm taking you to our leaders.." He paused, almost chuckling, "God, I sound like a human-made alien movie."
I sighed and closed my eyes, mumbling through his fingers, "Is it necessary to go this early?"
He whispered, "Yes... now come on, it's a long run."
I groaned, "I hope you're not thinking of going wolf and leaving me on foot."
He smiled, "Of course I am."
I reached forward to smack him but he had morphed and taken off already. I ran after him as fast as I possibly could but his wolf form was too fast for me to catch up with. He mocked me through his mind even though I tried to block him out.
The sun started to break through the trees when he circled back to me. He un-morphed and looked at my now-pained expression. Running this fast for so long was taxing and it took all of my energy not to gasp for air and cry at the pain jarring every inch of my body.
He spoke softly, "Come on Sakir.. stop. We'll stop for now."
I slowed down and my legs buckeled underneath me, sending me to the ground, which I managed to pull off gracefully... somewhat. I cursed at my soon to be swollen knees and fell back onto my butt. Darren squatted next to me and titled his head, "Just morph already. Nobody is going to see you."
I shook my head, "I'm much too noticeable in my wolf form..." I sighed a bit forlornly, "How much farther?" The side of his mouth turned down, "We're halfway right now." I cursed and laid back, closing my eyes tightly. I heard him stand up and peeked with one eye at him, "What's your plan?"
He smiled at me, "Simple... ride on my back." I gaped at him, "Are you serious? I am not getting on your smelly, itchy wolf hair filled, sweat---" His wolf teeth had grabbed my shirt and thrown me onto his back before I could finish, and lucky me, my face hit a foot of wolf fur. I scrambled up quickly and choked, wolf fur was pretty gross, and on a guy it was even worse. I plugged my nose with one hand and held on tightly with the other on the scruff of his neck. The forest passed by in a blur and I smacked his back with a resounding crack every time my head was almost shaved by a low hanging tree branch. I knew that he was aiming for them on purpose.
He unmorphed so quickly when we arrived that for a minute or two I was still clutching his back with a vicer-like grip. He choked out, "Sakir... SAKIR! Let me go!" I dropped to the floor on my feet and gasped, "Sorry... you morph too quickly." He rubbed his neck and motioned with the other hand, "Welcome to our main headquarters, I took you in a huge circle so you can't lead anyone here that we wouldnt want here, even against your will." I frowned but understood his precaution. He led me into the bustling town, well it was a town of tents, many small blue tents surrounded six red tents which surrounded a gigantic silver tent. He nodded to several people on our walk to the big silver tent and at the entrance to the tent he acknowledged the bodyguards by name, and they to him. I whispered to him, "How do you know all these people?" He whispered back, "I am a leader of a village... and was assigned to that post... I've always lived here until I was assigned that village."
Cecily pushed into my conscious I used to live here as well... but I was so dangerous then Sakir. I was the highest-ranking warrior the weres had, and in my lust for power, I made myself the queen by deception and destruction..
I shivered I can feel the death in this place Cecily... just like I did in that temple when you revealed yourself to me.
Her sigh was long The Temple of Dust... that used to be a were temple, but I destroyed all the powerful priests inside, and with them went the magic that made the temple so beautiful.
She paused I created the unbalance in this nation... I killed all the knowledgeable leaders here... and when I was killed, the nation fell into disorder and radicalism... except, of course, for the villages under this council.
I was beginning to feel overwhelmed What am I supposed to do to solve all these problems Cecily? I am just one person.
Cecily answered slowly Sakir... you may be one person.. but you can change everything, its what you were made for.
My eyes rolled over to Darren and I showed him prominently in my mind Cecily, I know what to do.
Her strange face and smile flashed through my mind Yes... you do in fact. Be careful that you tread lightly on their toes... for it might end worse than it started.
She faded and left me feeling more unsure of myself as Darren was literally shaking me out of my reverie, "Sakir!! Sakir!!" I blinked and mumbled, "What?" He looked a bit ticked at me, "It's time to go."
He pushed me through the heavy curtains and I stumbled into the tent, lit by a large opening in the top. The muted sunlight fell on three faces and I looked at all of them. Three men stared back at me, their faces slightly surprised to see a woman standing in front of them. I dipped my head and spoke, "My name is Sakir..." I took a deep breath and stared at them long and hard, "I am the heretic." The three men sat in their seats, not a movement from any of them. The man on the right spoke first, "What business do you have here? If surely not to harm us?" I continued, "I come to request peace.." The man in the middle stood up and shouted at me, "How can you request peace when you aren't one of us nor one of them?!!!" The first man turned to the middle man, "Sit down Phineas." He turned back to me, "What are your reasons to request peace?" I stepped forward, "Vampires, dear sirs, believe it or not, are naturally peaceful beings... If attacked, however, they do not hesitate to defend their nation, which at this moment is being attacked by radical weres. The training the vampires go through to fight turns them into bloodlusting beings that prolong death and agony and dont let compassion stand in the way of killing." I dropped to my knees, "Please sirs, help me stop the radicals from destroying the vampires who cannot distinguish peaceable nations from radical ones, from destroying you." The man to the left of Phineas stood in front of me and reached out a hand to help me up, his voice was low but commanding, "Sakir, we take your plea to heart, but we cannot trust a heretic so completely. Our people have wanted to stop fighting long before we began, but they will not be pleased if they know our decision has been influenced by you." He paused, "However.. if they know your feelings are pure and uncorrupted, they will follow our lead and we will be able to help you." I nearly whispered, "And how will they know?" Phineas's eyes were cold, "Our priests will do a mind-search."
Cecily hissed within my conscious
I narrowed my eyes slightly, "They can only search the memories I choose. If they go anywhere they are not supposed to, I will kill them." The man to the left of Phineas nodded and motioned to dark figures on the side of the tent. These two mere boys looked positively petrified as they knelt in front of me, and I in front of them. Their small, burning hot, timid hands touched my forehead and I was jolted as small tendrils of fire raced into my conscious. I saw the memories they flipped through and growled as one strayed into more intimate moments. The fiery tendril quickly snapped into a new direction. They searched my memories for a long time and little gasps of surprise would emit from one or the other as Cecily would speak in my memories or show me things.
Slowly their hands departed from my forehead and they blinked, their mouths slightly open, as they turned to the three men, the first boy spoke, "Phineas, Titus, and Demetrius..." The second boy spoke, "We have searched her relevant memories completely, and have found her deeply knowledgeable of the vampiric race." The first one spoke again, "They are as she has said and thought, deeply attached to each other and to their friends, and naturally peaceful. They are an old race, and a prided one, they have a functioning and well working council, and make decisions slowly like their race." The second one finished calmly, "We have both agreed that her peace requests should be advanced, and the radicals, whom you already know we detest, be stopped by all means we can provide."
I was amazed at their decision and their eyes met mine again as they went to sit down, they were young, but so old. I stood in front of Demetrius, Phineas, and Titus and they stood and bowed to me deeply, Titus speaking in his low voice, "Sakir, you shall no longer be an enemy of this nation. You have come to one of our villages, lived there peacefully, traveled here peacefully, and meant us no harm." Demetrius, the first man spoke up, "But do not expect smooth transition from all members of this nation. As the vampires, our emotions run deep, and many will not forgive the vampires for the death they have wreaked upon our kind for a long, long time." Phineas looked at me gravely, "They will not let you go unharmed if they see or know you are around. Take Darren with you wherever you travel and do not use your name."
I nodded and the twin boys ushered me out, their burning hands gripping my arms protectively as they ushered me out through the side of the tent. The spoke together in a whisper as they pushed me through, "You are finally living up to your potential Cecily.."
I was puzzled by their statement because of their young age... but Cecily made no move to quell my sudden curiosity. Darren's hands grabbed my shoulders and pushed me back behind him as he swiftly traveled out of camp. His eyes narrowed as he faced me outside of the town, "We have to move quickly Sakir... people will follow us much too easily if we go by foot."
I groaned, "I hate sitting on your back."
He shook his head, "No. You're morphing. Now."
He morphed and took my arm between his huge teeth NOW
My eyes widened, "I'm serious Darren I'm too obvious!!"
He growled and bit down, leaving bloody trails trickling down my arm. I winced and literally screamed in my mind, ******** JUST LET ME GO DARREN! I'LL MORPH!
He released me and I morphed, just as smoothly as I always had. There was silence as he stared at me for a while and I rolled my eyes I told you.
He shook his head and started to run More reason for us to run faster.
I groaned and took off after him Being white is ridiculous... everyone and everything knows where I am. He sniffed the air as he ran and a little smile showed on his muzzle I smell some fog... that should do.
I was skeptical Weres can see through fog smart one.
He bobbed his head Yes, but in fog every wolf looks white, so you won't stand out.
I laughed in my head You act like you've hidden a white wolf before.
He was silent and whispered in his mind You're my first.... but.. we're not alone.
I pricked my ears for sound and heard muffled animal breathing to our left.. a good ways off I can outrun them.
Darren shook his fury head No... dont risk it Sakir.
I walked next to him I'm faster than most weres Darren..
He was silent for a moment and then spoke with slight shock coating his voice You drank vampire blood?
I was silent and then moved my head slightly in a nod. Darren exploded in his head ARE YOU SERIOUS?! SAKIR! HOW--WHEN--WHY?!/i]
I growled You don't need to know. And with that I took off away from the ever closer muffled breathing, Darren a ways back, trying to catch up with me. I broke into a fast sprint and tried my best to sniff out the village. I also kept my ears alert for the sound of other wolf paws behind us... but they stopped a good ways back. I was still uneasy as we skidded into the village.
The women looked at me in awe as I unmorphed and I waved away their questions, mumbling repeatedly, "I have to leave.. I have to leave.. I'm sorry.. I have to leave. I have to leave."
I grabbed my stuff and hitched it to my leg, looking back at Darren who had just arrived, completely out of breath, "I have to leave.. get away from this place.. they can't hurt this village because of me." His eyes were full of worry, "Where will you go?" I started walking away from camp, "Back to Jade and Darius." He continued, "What if they find you... what if the vampires that want to kill you find you? Who is going to protect you?" I waved off his questions, "I can protect myself." I started to morph but he grabbed my hand and ruined my concentration, "Sakir you can't go by yourself." My eyes narrowed, "You're not coming with me." He growled, "I will not let you die."
I yanked free of his hand, "I'm not going to die." He grabbed my hand again, "I'm coming with you." I snapped, "No you're not."
I threw away his hand with a twist and poked my finger into his chest, "You are not coming with me and you are not following me. You need to help me here. Bring people around to peace and help stop the radicals."
Darren looked at me with anger in his eyes but it faded.. I continued, "I know you can persuade people more than I can.. you have pull in this nation. I will see you again Darren.. I promise."
His hands suddenly pulled me in and he kissed my lips briefly, his eyebrows furrowed in slight frustration, "I know that you weren't meant to be with me Sakir, you were meant for that vampire. I know that he hurt you, more than I can possibly imagine, but I know that even that small kiss was stolen from him." His hands dropped to his sides, "I just didn't want you to leave without knowing that... I still wish I was him."
I closed my eyelids tightly and fought back the emotion that was bubbling to the surface. I opened my eyes and embraced him tightly, tears choking my voice slightly, "Darren.. please do not envy him.. for as a friend you can never hurt me as deeply as he... but only help me and stand by me.." I pulled away and kissed his forehead, "Stand by me when I sew this world back together."
He nodded wordlessly and I turned and sliced through the air, letting the air billow under my feet as my snow white paws barely touched the ground.
