I’m sitting here trying to write something.
Someone burps and I call,
“Who’s there?”
That was you.
“Oh, yeah.”

I have voices in my head.
Hi!
They talk to me all the time.
What cha up to, huh?
They always know just what to say.
Boo boo bee boo boop!
They entertain me when I’m bored.
And then I found five bucks.
No lie, yo.
But lately…
I’ve been too down to notice my voices.
Yeah, how come?
Because I found a real voice.
Oh, no!
How could you have forgotten us?
It was simple, actually.
That voice was real; yours aren’t.
But don’t we sound real?
Yes, but you’re not.
You’re voices that I made up.
Voices that say what I want to hear.
Is that so bad, really?
Sometimes, yes.
Oh.
I loved my real voice.
Loved?
Yes, loved.
Past tense?
It’s gone now.
Why?
Because my voice took over my head.
What do you mean?
I no longer had you for the advice,
I only had my own.
Oh.
And I lost that voice;
That one real outer voice.
I lost it.
It’s gone.
And we’re back!
But I don’t want it to be gone!
I loved that voice.
It was sweet.
It was nice.
It sent shivers all over my body.
We can do that.
No, you can’t.
You’re not real!
It’s not our fault!
I know it’s not.
What can we do?
Please, be real.
We would if we could.
Let’s write something, shall we?
But that’s all I do!
You tell me to write something and I do it.
I want to live the story!
Not write it.
But it’s much more fun to hear us talk!
Yes!
Fun!
No!
I’m tired of these make-believe conversations.
I’m tired of her living the life I want to lead.
But you could never be her.
I could try…
But you won’t achieve.
You’re not that pretty, you know?
I know…
So, just write, yes?
I guess I will.
Write a short story.

About a girl.
Who listens to voices in her head.
