Sleepless Night and a Guitar
God I can't sleep. I've been working on this guitar for two straight days. It wouldn't bother me if it was something easy to fix. What started this all is my brother's battle buddy wanted me to fix this guitar that had been lying around for like 10 years. It's a Kramer and as far as I know Kramer went out of business or they cut back some manufactoring plants. I thought it woudl be a piece of cake with the experience under my belt. Well it turns out that some idiot ( not pointing fingers at battle buddy) has taken sharpie to the back tremolo plate, pickguard, and most aggrivatingly the pickups. not only that the A string was a accoustic string, the tremolo was too high in the first place, and somebody put stickers all over the body aside from the normal wear and tear and gunk that comes with an old instrument. I haven't even got to the easy stuff yet. I have sanded down the moisture in the cavities of the body, I have removed the stickers and most of the sharpy but the residue from the stickers is horrible. I managed to get most of it of with acetone and a credit card but some still remains. I still have to clean and condition the fretboard, repair damage to the neck, buff and polish the frets, clean; buff; wax; and polish the body, and string it and set the tremolo. God I am so aggrivated. This is some of the most difficult work i've ever had to do other than fixing a routing and wiring problem from a previous experience. I hope he dosen't get off scott free just because he's my brother's friend. I love fixing and refurbishing guitars but stuff like this is a pain but tests my skill so I am up for the challenge. Music in general is my life and my first love and no one can or will replace that. What I need to do is find somebody who needs maintenence on their instruments like a band and travel with them and keep them all fixed up or I need to publisize a shop or something because we don't really have shops around here. I don't think I would get a lot of customers because of people not knowing hwo to take care of stuff. Well it's time to go back to work on the ol' finger cramper. Peace out.
