Memento Mori
Remember you are mortal, remember you will die.
The False Dawn
A False Dawn

"The world has revolved around once again,
solemnly marking the end of what was then
and the beginning of asking when.

"When?" might be the question you ask,
not knowing that the concept is merely a mask.
A facade that places a new face on something old,
A grim realization that can turn one cold.

The spirituality of a new year does not exist,
An idea of optimists who roam in our midst,
a lie only meant to give society strength to subsist.

After the end of this day and the beginning of the year,
The curse of tommorow is the cloth we wear,
Everything returning to normal and bleak,
An exhaustion of tension leaving one weak.

There is no rebirth behind the end of the day,
only the arduous painful path that is the way,
leaving the tortured soul only to fray.

Despite this existance of toil and distress,
we shall always go and progress,
for the future and for the light,
grasping blindly for that hope burning bright..."

So that's what you meant by false dawn...
Happy revolving around the sun 2007 times since we started counting =D.
Kinda ironic. You talk about dawn, as in the morning, a time of happiness for the new year, yet the end of the poem makes it seem that in reality it is really dusk, yet we force ourselves to see the dawn.
Hmm...
Stop playing dot.hack =O.
